Details

Established in 1995, Food for Others obtains and distributes free food to the hungry of Northern Virginia and supports food programs of other community-based organizations.
They provide a channel for people to help their neighbors by actively volunteering their service. Food for Others is Northern Virginia's primary safety net for those needing food when an emergency strikes, and for the growing number of working poor who are unable to make ends meet and need to supplement their inadequate food supplies.
Food for Others feeds 1,800 families weekly and distributes 1.8 million pounds of food annually.
Food for Others began feeding the hungry December 11, 1995.
Lazarus at the Gate founded the program in 1984 following the discovery of urgent, unmet hunger needs in Northern Virginia.
Food for Others' volunteers organized a new nonprofit to continue operations after Lazarus discontinued its activities.
